Artemis Fowl series

My favorite series is the Artemis Fowl series. Well, right now, at least. I always say that I am the elf Holly Short, the only female in LEPrecon! She gets kidnapped by Artemis Fowl, imprisoned just before completing the Ritual, the magic-renewing process of the People. Artemis has a copy of the fairy Book, which is the fairy bible, and he teaches himself Gnommish, the fairy language. The Lower Elements Police, or LEP, send out a Retrieval squad, single-handedly taken down by Butler, Artemis's bodyguard. They negotiate, but Commander Root, Holly's mentor and (though he doesn't know it) friend, insists they blue-rinse the place. A blue rinse is a flash of light that does not affect structures, only kills living things. There is no escape, or so the People think. They try to retrieve the other half of the gold Artemis has gained, but Artemis survives. He has forbidden the People to enter the building while he is alive.. What happens next? Read the series to find out! All I'm going to say is there are some tragic events.
